Hey Nik, that’s an interesting question. If the same situation happened all over again, I probably would have still taken the picture because at that point, the “moment” is ruined and I might as well bring some extra joy to someone else.
Do I wish that the woman didn’t ask me for a photo? Yes. But at the same time I don’t know what she’s going through either. Maybe this trip was equally special for her and my photo of her will be a cherished memory.
I think my main point is that this experience taught me that before we ask someone for a favor, we should spend an extra second deciding whether we really need the favor at all. I know I’m guilty of sometimes taking other people’s time and energy for granted, especially in my regular 9–5 job. Every favor has a cost, no matter how small.
